Reflextions

Sarah Jayne Banks was born in Montgomery, Alabama on August 17, 1960 to the [beloved - late] Johnny and Mattie Banks. She was the oldest of their four girls: Johnnie Mae Shingles (deceased), Evon and Renee’ Banks.

As everyone knows Jayne was the matriarch of our crew: A leader by birth being the first child of Johnny and Mattie Banks and a dominate person by Zodiac (a Lion), leader of the pack and her personality was so fitting of her sign and placement in the family. We all looked to Jayne for her keen knowledge and “get it done” attitude. If you happened to be in her path when she ROARED, please accept our apologizes. We all may have scars – life was good and we all watched out for that FULL Moon and how it affected her female emotions – right Kevin and Jean? She joined her family church (First Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church in Washington, DC) where she was baptized at a very young age. We were told that when she decided to join the church, Johnnie Mae followed suit and joined the same day. unfortunately, we will never know who made the first move Jayne or Johnnie Mae. All we know is that they did it together as sisters. Also, when Jayne decided to join the Intermediate Choir, Johnnie did as well. She spent her later years attending Mount Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, MD. where she enjoyed and continued her faithful spiritual journey until her passing. We believe a voice came from Heaven saying to her, this my beloved daughter in whom I am well pleased - take your rest. {The Angel that lies before us Returns to her King}

Jayne attended public school and graduated from Suitland High School with Honors. Through hard work, an eagerness to learn as much as possible and an interest in computers, she secured a rewarding job at NASA Goddard Space Center. Jayne’s dedication and perseverance as a Supervisor brought her numerous recognitions, outstanding awards, and honors. She was most proud of her work as a major player on the NASA Project (the Hubble Space Shuttle). In her later career, she worked at Lockheed Martin as a Program Engineer. Jayne was a very direct person with a big heart and was genuinely kind to others. In her twenties and early thirties, she was very athletic. She loved sports. She enjoyed a good game of volleyball with her family members, playing volleyball on the side of the house after the pool parties or at the park. She played on her job volleyball and baseball teams. Jayne enjoyed life and she enjoyed traveling going to exotic blue water beaches just to sit on the beach and watch the sunset. You could also find her watching NASCAR races all day – #8 Dale Reinhart was her favorite driver. For her personal outlet, Jayne would take a long road trip driving up the mountain. We would later find out that on her weekend getaways she would have rented a Convertible sports car (Mustang) just to let the breeze or wind blow in her hair. She enjoyed writing and family history. Gathering family data and working on Family Reunion Programs was like a hobby – right Chris?

She leaves to cherish her memory three Heartbeats, two nieces, JoVonna Gatling (Julius Gatling) and Jasmine Shingles and nephew – Justice Ryan Gatling (Deshaun Wooten, Jaden Gatling, and Tiajuana Gatling); three beloved godchildren, Kendall Ardarrel Banks, Samantha Henderson, and Kristina Nguyen; extended Family, Chen and Huong Nguyen, Deloris Smith, Jeanette Brooks, Tony Christmas, Sheryl Covington, and let us not forget Wally Williams – Mr. Casino; along with an abundance of beloved and devoted special aunts, uncles and cousins from Montgomery ,Alabama; Utica, New York; Columbia, South Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Brooklyn, New York; Detroit, Michigan, Washington, DC and the list goes on.

                              No one word can express the LOVE that Jayne felt for her Family.
